Tennessee football cornerback Doneiko Slaughter enters transfer portal

Cornerback Doneiko Slaughter entered the transfer portal Sunday after four seasons with Tennessee football.

“Expressing my gratitude for the tremendous support, development and love I’ve experienced during my time at the University of Tennessee,” Slaughter wrote Sunday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The relationships I’ve bult with my brothers and staff have been invaluable, contributing significantly to my growth as both an athlete and individual. The support from Volnation has made this university feel like a home. However, after careful consideration, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. This decision is about my personal growth and aspirations and in no way diminishes the gratitude and love I feel for the University of Tennessee. I am sincerely thankful for the opportunities and memories here.”

The 6-foot, 190-pound Slaughter played in 43 games in four seasons with 87 tackles, three sacks and an interception. He missed two games this season but still had a career-high 32 tackles.

Slaughter is the second notable UT defender to enter the portal since Friday, joining senior defensive end Tyler Baron. Slaughter is the third cornerback to enter the portal since the season ended, joining former starters Warren Burrell and Brandon Turnage.

Burrell played 41 games with 22 starts over five seasons for UT. He committed to Georgia Tech. Turnage played 31 games with six starts at cornerback and nickelback. Burrell committed to Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Offensive lineman Addison Nichols, a former four-star prospect, entered the portal since it opened Dec. 4 for football players. He played two games in 2022 and 12 games in 2023, mostly on special teams.
