[MUSIC PLAYING]CHARLES ROBINSON: The way the question was asked to Goodell, it was very open-ended. It was sort of ambiguous. It was not laser-focused on exactly what Reid had said, allowed Goodell to basically just come out and go, well, what’s the problem? It was– like, I’m paraphrasing, but he’s like, what’s the problem? It was the right call. They made the right call, and if they had made the wrong call there, they would have gotten criticized for that. So basically it’s just Goodell doing his typical song and dance, “our officiating is great.”
I said to you, and I think this is the crux of the conversation that’s not being had right now. When you talk to coaches and coaching staffs, they will tell you that this is true, like, it’s what’s bothering them is the lack of consistency on calls or protocol from one crew to the next. You get used to one, or two, or three straight crews doing it this way, then you run into the fourth crew that’s doing it differently, right?
And this is one of those situations, “the check with me” situation, where you’re saying to the official, hey, am I good? Like, a wide receiver is lining up, am I good? Points at them, official gives them the sign, you’re good, you’re aligned correctly, whatever. Where some officials do it, some officials don’t. This is insanity to me. You’re literally creating a gray area by not saying to your officials, either answer it or don’t. If someone asks you, protocol is you have to answer.
JORI EPSTEIN: Yeah. No, I think there’s a lot to unpack from what you just said. So let’s start off with what did Goodell say….
