NFL free agency 2024: Packers releasing Aaron Jones after agreeing to terms with Josh Jacobs, per report

The Green Bay Packers have turned their backfield on its head. Off the heels of agreeing to terms with former Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, the team is set to release veteran back Aaron Jones, according to NFL Media. On top of Jacobs’ arrival, this severing of ties with Jones comes after contract talks between him and the Packers broke down. Jones was entering the final year of his contract in 2024 and was due $12 million for this season. 

The 29-year-old had spent his entire career with the Packers. He was drafted by the club in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of UTEP and blossomed into one of the more versatile backs in the league. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and was the co-leader for rushing touchdowns back in 2019. 

In 2023, Jones was hampered by injuries and limited to just 11 games. When he was on the field, however, he was extremely productive, rushing for over 100 yards in the…
