In the spirit of March Madness, we’re ready to seed the SEC – but here’s the twist. We’re seeding for football.
Now, you might be thinking, “This sure sounds like an SEC football power ranking, doesn’t it?”
Well, yes. It’s exactly that. But, this is the time of seeds, brackets and upsets, so why call this a power ranking? It’s seeding, darn it!
On this edition of “SEC Football Unfiltered,” a podcast from the USA TODAY Network, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams offer their 2024 power rankings – or seeding, rather.
This pecking order is not necessarily reflective of how they see the conference standings. A team’s schedule draw will affect the standings. Rather, this seeding is based more on a team’s merits.

Here’s their SEC football seeding, 1 through 16, for the 2024 season:
Georgia (Toppmeyer: 1; Adams: 1): The rich got richer, as evidenced by Georgia acquiring one of Florida’s top weapons, running back Trevor Etienne. Georgia returns ample talent, including quarterback Carson Beck. It’s the SEC’s team to beat.
Texas (Toppmeyer: 2; Adams: 3): Texas boasts a strong offensive line, a proven quarterback in Quinn Ewers and addressed its wide receiver needs in the transfer portal. Top question: Will its defensive front remain as dominant?
Ole Miss (Toppmeyer: 3; Adams: 2): The “Portal King” did it again. Given the way he acquires free agent talent, maybe Lane Kiffin should audition for NFL GM. He was especially good at improving the Rebels’ depth chart on defense. The offense should remain in good shape.
LSU (Toppmeyer: 4; Adams: 6): The defense ought to improve after Brian Kelly overhauled his staff, highlighted by the seizure of defensive coordinator Blake Baker from Missouri. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier won’t be Jayden Daniels 2.0, but his bowl…
