– Let’s talk some prospect comparisons for this year’s wide receiver class with a twist, focusing on Malik Nabers out of LSU. My aggressive comparison for Nabers is Brandon Aiyuk, who is kind of the peak of that wild horse route runner type of receiver. Man, this is a guy that you can line up as an X receiver, and he can win against press coverage on the line of scrimmage, a total number one receiver in that archetype.

Wide frame. Ideal length for your number one receiver. He can snare those off target passes. But the easiest thing to spot with Malik Nabers is the run after catch ability. Plays in space. That was what initially drew the 49ers to drafting Brandon Aiyuk as a number one receiver in the first round.

And I think that is the way that Malik Nabers is going to make an instant impact on the NFL field. Now, my cautious comparison for Malik Nabers is DJ Moore, who’s a really good receiver in his own right. But with DJ Moore, he was a guy that took a little bit of time to develop as a route runner, took a little bit of time to get comfortable in that X receiver position early on in his career with the Carolina Panthers.

So Malik Nabers, to me, is a guy that could take a little bit more time to develop. I think of these top three receivers, he’s the least refined of these guys. But either way, you’re looking at a player that can make plays in space, can win after the catch, and is a guy that you can absolutely get the most out of as his career develops, as his skills grow. I love Malik Nabers as a top 10 pick in this draft.
