Garrett Nussmeier to Kyren Lacy could be one of the nation’s best quarterback-receiver connections

LSU had a very strong case for having the top quarterback and receiver duo in the nation last season.

Signal-caller Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy while leading the nation in nearly every quarterback category, and Malik Nabers finished as the Biletnikoff runner-up after leading the nation in receiving yards prior to bowl season and setting LSU’s all-time receiving record.

Both are gone, but the next duo up has the potential to be very strong with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and receiver Kyren Lacy, both of which have spent multiple seasons waiting for a chance to break out in Baton Rouge.

Nussmeier has shown positive flashes in limited action, while Lacy has managed solid production despite playing in a loaded receiver room. Though there’s some projection involved with both, On3’s JD PicKell named them as the No. 6 quarterback/receiver battery in college football this season.

Nussmeier takes over for Jayden Daniels but people know about the arm talent. It’ll help that Lacy could be his top option this fall.

In limited action in his career, Nussmeier is 129-of-219 (58.9%) passing for 1,720 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Lacy broke out last year with 30 catches, 558 yards, seven touchdowns and 18.6 yards per catch. Perhaps he can go over 20 yards on average!

Both players have taken advantage of the opportunities they’ve had so far, and while LSU faces a lot of questions in 2024, quarterback and No. 1 receiver are not among the most pressing.
