Four-star OL Darius Afalava headed to Oklahoma

Darius Afalava toured programs all across the country and had some great experiences but nothing could beat Oklahoma.

So after a lot of thinking – and heavily considering Utah as well – the Sooners landed his commitment on Friday.

“I just think the whole philosophy,” Afalava said. “A lot of schools can claim that they care about the whole family aspect of the team but Oklahoma proved it.

“The SOUL Mission, the whole development they have within their whole coaching staff not to mention coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh just seeing how many linemen he’s put into the league, that’s a big reason why I see myself in that crimson and white. Everything stands out about them to me.”

The four-star offensive lineman from Lehi (Utah) Skyridge connected with Bedenbaugh in a special way and it was that relationship that carried the day in Afalava’s recruitment.

“What really caught my eye are the guys he put out in the last few years like Cody Ford, just the first rounders they have,” Afalava said. “Just seeing how real of a coach he is and how he teaches it really is an eye-opener for offensive linemen to go to him.

“As a coach he’s one of the hardest coaches to be with because he’s going to squeeze everything out of you. That’s the main reason why a lot of players go there and then go to the league because he’s going to push you as hard as he can.

“As a person, he’s really cool. He’s real. Being genuine and real to me are the two biggest factors as a coach.”

The versatile 6-foot-5, 300-pounder who can play either offensive tackle or offensive guard could play both when he gets to Norman.

“They were saying I can play both, be versatile and play inside and outside,” Afalava.

The Lehi Skyridge standout had more than 20 offers but two main standouts. In the end, it was a two-team race.

“It was Utah,”…
