Jackson State football hires former Tigers defensive back as assistant coach, analyst

Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor has added former Tigers defensive back Tenoa Alex Jr. to the 2024 coaching staff. Alex will be an assistant linebacker coach and defensive analyst.

Jackson State football posted the hiring on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. “We would like to introduce our new Defensive Analyst & Assistant Linebacker Coach Tenoa Alex Jr.!! @AlexTenoa Welcome back to Thee!!!”

Alex was on the staff of Massachusetts Maritime in 2023. He also has coached at St. Clair College in Canada and at the high school level.

Alex played for Jackson State from 2016 through 2019. In his senior season, JSU went 4-8, with a 49-44 win over Tennessee State in the 30th Southern Heritage Classic.

During his career, Alex had more than 60 total tackles with one sack and three interceptions. He played under then-head coach John Hendrick.

Taylor hopes to improve on the Tigers’ 7-4 record in 2023, his first as Jackson State’s head coach. This offseason, he hired former Jackson State two-time All-American linebacker Javancy Jones. Jones will coach outside linebackers and special teams.

Jackson State begins its 2024 football season against the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 29 (ESPN+, 6 p.m.).
