A village helped Dunnellon football standout Sean Martin become a Division I prospect.
Coaches across the country have come to the Tigers’ field to watch him. After an almost two-year recruiting battle, Eastern Michigan landed the opportunity with one of Marion County’s best on-field talents on Friday.
Martin’s love for the game started when his uncles and grandfather, all former football players, taught him techniques from different positions before he was old enough to play tackle football. Those backyard moments turned Martin into a versatile weapon on both sides of the ball.
“As a player, Sean is a big-time athlete. He carries the ball, plays receiver, played soft corner for us, will play safety this year,” Dunnellon coach Tommy Sutton said. “He’s one of the smartest kids I’ve been around, the best leader I’ve been around in 18 years. He holds himself and his teammates accountable. He’s a coach on the field.”

A football life can become as rich as Martin’s, but it only happens in the right situations. The recruiting process is difficult, but when you’re the younger brother of Chris Henry, a three-star incoming freshman cornerback for West Virginia, you know what to look for.
When coaches called him with recruiting pitches, he knew what signs to look for. That led him to choose the Eagles over several other colleges, including Ivy League schools Harvard and Princeton.
“The biggest thing for me is the coaching staff,” Martin said. “I believe the biggest thing for me is coaching staff because they’re going to be my father figures for the next four years,”…
