Baylor pulls off stunner in landing four-star WR Taz Williams Jr.

Signing Day is typically when the stunners come into play in terms of commitment decisions, but we happen to have one in July this go-around.

The Baylor Bears have landed a commitment from Red Oak (Texas) four-star wide receiver Taz Williams Jr.

Williams is the No. 135 overall prospect in the 2025 Rivals250.

The surprising aspect of Baylor comes into play as the Bears were not one of Williams’ finalists nor has he taken an official visit to Waco. But nonetheless, the Bears were able to swoop in late and grab all the momentum.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder chose Baylor over Penn State, SMU, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

With the addition, Baylor continues a red hot July as Williams is the third four-star commitment of the month, the second in the Rivals250. Baylor now holds 16 commitments in the 2025 class, four wide receivers.

What Baylor is getting in Taz Williams Jr.

Baylor is adding the most offered wide receiver in the 2025 class, so that alone speaks volumes to his ability on the field. But to go a bit deeper, Baylor is adding a physical, tough and savvy route running prospect to the perimeter of their offense. Williams, who trains with Margin Hooks, one of the top skills trainers in the country, utilizes various releases and use of leverage to create separation and create opportunities for himself.

I am also a big fan of Williams Jr’s run after the catch ability, especially his contact balance and physicality to break tackles. Williams has been one of the top wideouts in the 2025 class for two years following a breakout sophomore season that saw him reel in 582 yards and five touchdowns on 31 receptions. He followed that up with an 80 receptions, 1,251 yard and 14 touchdowns junior campaign.
