Zephyrhills 5-star recruit DJ Pickett commits to LSU

The Tampa Bay area’s top recruit, Zephyrhills High’s DJ Pickett, orally committed to LSU on Wednesday. Pickett is a five-star prospect and the nation’s top cornerback in the 247Sports composite. He’s the site’s No. 6 overall recruit and No. 1 in the state.

Pickett’s other finalists were Miami and Oregon.

The 6-foot-4, 178-pound athlete is the area’s highest rated recruit since Berkeley Prep’s Keon Keeley signed with Alabama in the 2023 class.

Pickett topped 1,000 receiving yards last season with the Bulldogs and caught 15 touchdown passes. He had 31 tackles and an interception on defense.

A notable factor in Pickett’s recruitment, according to 247Sports, was LSU assistant Corey Raymond — who spent the previous two seasons with the Gators.

Pickett’s family is one of the most prominent in local high school sports. His uncle, Ryan, was a first-round pick out of Ohio State. Last recruiting cycle, top-100 recruit Booker Pickett Jr. from Wharton High signed with Miami (where his father played).
