Wisconsin has been a constant in College Football Playoff rankings

The Wisconsin Badgers boast the 14th-most appearances in the College Football Playoff rankings since the format began 2014.

UW has entered a given week ranked within the ranking’s top 25 on 32 occasions since 2014. For reference, Oregon holds 38 appearances while Penn State has reached the ranking system 36 times.

The Badgers’ football program has experienced its fair share of success during the College Football Playoff era. Since the institution of the College Football Playoff  format in 2014, Wisconsin has amassed a combined record of 90-38.

The Badgers have also captured four Big Ten West division championships during the CFB Playoff’s existence, including in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Under the leadership of then-head coach Paul Chryst, Wisconsin landed as high as No. 6 in the College Football Playoff poll in 2017. The Badgers went 13-1 that season with its sole loss coming against No. 8 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game.

UW also reached No. 8 in the final CFP poll in both 2016 and 2019. Losses to Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State prevented the 2016 team from reaching the playoff while uncharacteristic a defeat to unranked Illinois stopped the 2019 squad from clinching a berth in the final four format.

The Badgers have, however, appeared in 22 straight bowl games on the turf, including a 2020 Rose Bowl appearance against Justin Herbert’s Oregon Ducks. The program will look to continue that form in Luke Fickell’s second season manning the sidelines in Madison.
