Texas bolsters interior as 4-star DL Josiah Sharma flips commitment from Oregon to UT

Maybe the sky isn’t falling for Texas football recruiting.

The Longhorns got a recruiting win on Thursday evening when 2025 4-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma flipped his commitment from Oregon to Texas. Rated as the 30th ranked DL in the nation according to the 247Sports composite, Sharma measures in at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds and had been committed to the Ducks since June.

He is Texas’ 16th commitment and gives them the 13th ranked 2025 class in the nation according to 247Sports. Sharma is also the second defensive lineman to commit with 4-star Lance Jackson being the first. However, his addition gives the Longhorns heft in the middle of the line that the 260 pound Jackson does not.

UT went through a bit of a rough patch in July when they missed out on two in-state 5-star prospects, as wide receiver Dakorien Moore pledged to Oregon and linebacker Riley Pettijohn committed to Ohio State. Even so, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is as calm as ever.

“I’ve never been one to panic in recruiting,” Sarkisian said at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention on Monday. “I think history kind of shows we usually close pretty good as we get into the season, as we get into December.”

He has a point. Texas landed 5-star defensive backs Kobe Black and Xavier Filsaime last December, two of their highest-rated recruits in that cycle. They also got a commitment from 5-star receiver Ryan Wingo in October, a player who may make big waves his freshman season.
