Jets’ Robert Saleh has high hopes for TE Jeremy Ruckert and his fourth year as head coach

Robert Saleh enters his fourth year as the Jets’ head coach with not a whole lot to show for it. However, he has high hopes that Year 4 can finally be the year that New York has been waiting for.

Since 2021 when Saleh joined the team, Gang Green has gone 18-33 – never finishing above .500 and coming in fourth or third place in the division during those three seasons.

In fairness to Saleh, the Jets haven’t had a record above .500 or finished higher than third place in the AFC East since 2015, but Saleh was brought over from the San Francisco 49ers to change that. He hasn’t – at least, not yet.

“I think we all felt that last year was gonna be that for us,” Saleh said about the team making a leap. “My first year in San Fran I think we went 6-10, second year we went 4-12 and then our third year we went to the Super Bowl and we went 13-3, if I remember right… Last year really felt like we were getting ready to take that third-year leap, similar to what Detroit experienced this year, and obviously it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, but this year is gonna be fun.”

Obviously, New York’s hopes last year were dashed when Aaron Rodgers got injured during his first drive in a Jet uniform. But this year, Saleh is excited to get the band back together and try once again to get Gang Green over the hump.

To their credit, the Jets and GM Joe Douglas improved the depth of team better this season than they did last season if something is to go terribly wrong. But they also have some young players who are one year older and eager to prove that they can be part of the solution such as tight end Jeremy Ruckert.

Ruckert, who New York drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, caught a touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor in the red zone on Friday and continues to impress his head coach.
