Georgia football has hired a former defensive coordinator for one of its top rivals to its staff.
Former Georgia Tech coordinator Andrew Thacker has added @Georgia football to his bio on X, formerly Twitter.
DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell reports Thacker has worked with the Bulldogs’ staff in an off-field capacity under Kirby Smart for a few weeks.
Smart mentioned Thacker before the Georgia Tech game in 2022 saying the Yellow Jackets defense causes “havoc. They stunt and move people. They fire people. They blitz people, and they cause turnovers. They’re bought in. They play really hard. Credit to Coach Thacker and what he believes in, but they’re playing really hard.”
The former Furman safety was demoted by coach Brent Key after the first month of last season from his role as defensive coordinator that he held since 2019 and then moved into an off-field role this offseason.
The Cartersville native spent two years at Temple with Geoff Collins, one as defensive coordinator.
