Jackson State football received a commitment Wednesday from 2023 Mt. San Antonio College Junior College All-American defensive back Shamar Hawkins.
Hawkins on his social media page X, formerly known as Twitter, said, “God Did!!! #Committed #LLT #Gaurdtheyard @Coach_Magana @gojsutigersfb
Hawkins was listed as a member of the Northern Arizona University recruiting class in February.
Hawkins, who is a 5-foot-11,190-pound defensive back had 46 total tackles, two sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups. He is versatile and can play multiple positions.
He will join a deep defensive back group with returning players Ke’Vric Wiggins, B.J. Wiggins and Esaias Guthrie, who last month was named to the 2024 Preseason All-SWAC team.
Jackson State opened fall camp on Monday, and will start the season on the road against ULM on Aug. 29 (6 p.m., ESPN+).
