Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list

Mar 5, 2024; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin (56) hits the sled during the first spring practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

He may be a newcomer to Ohio State, but the young man is still grabbing attention. Seth McLaughlin has been named to the 2024 watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.

The Wuerffel Trophy is more about character than stats and is named after former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel of Florida. Wuerffel led the Gators to the 1996 national championship, but many Buckeye fans will recall 1996 being one Shawn Springs slip away from playing in that championship game. Oh what could have been… but we’re getting off topic.

In its own words, the Wuerffel Trophy “Honors college football players who serve others, celebrates their impact, and inspires greater service in the world.” And Seth McLaughlin has been chosen as one to keep an eye on.

There are 100 players on the watchlist. And while that is quite a few names to compete with, it has to be an absolute honor to be named as a finalist. These are the kind of awards that make mom and dad proud. Congratulations young man, and best of luck.
