Nov 4, 2023; Piscataway, New Jersey, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (2) looks for room to run after making a catch during the second half of the NCAA football game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at SHI Stadium. Ohio State won 35-16.
We continue to keep an eye on all of the preseason college football watch lists, and one of the big ones dropped this week with the folks at the Walter Camp Foundation dropping the watch list for the Walter Camp Award.
Initially handed out in 1967, the Watler Camp Award goes to the college football player of the year. Think Heisman, but from a different group of voters.
The three Ohio State players appearing on the watch list include Quinshon Judkins, Emeka Egbuka, and Will Howard. It’s important to note that a player doesn’t need to be on the list to win the award (ahem, TreVeyon Henderson). All three players are expected to be one of the best at their respective positions and a big part of this year’s Buckeye squad, so it makes sense.
The award will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards show on December 12. Three Ohio State players have taken the Walter Camp home — Archie Griffin (1974 and 1975), Eddie George (1995), and Troy Smith (2006).
