WEST HARRISON, Indiana – In an effort to divulge as little information as possible, college football teams often delay naming their starting quarterback. Usually, only a returning starter or well-publicized transfer is given the nod early. Otherwise, the goal is to make the opposing defense prepare for a couple of options in week one.
Coach Scott Satterfield’s Cincinnati Bearcats are no different. Right now everything indicates a two-man race between Indiana transfer Brendan Sorsby, who had seven starts with the Hoosiers last season, and Brady Lichtenberg, who started one game last season and appeared in seven.
Sorsby is a redshirt freshman, Lichtenberg a redshirt junior, and also having ample training camp reps has been Philadelphia freshman Samaj Jones. Jones was not made available after Thursday’s practice, so here’s what we know of the race as the Bearcats face one more week of Camp Higher Ground before returning to practice at Nippert Stadium for the duration of the season.
Brendan Sorsby transferred to UC after appearing in 10 games for Indiana with seven starts. He had 15 touchdown passes last season and was only intercepted five times.

He took care of the football at Indiana with 15 touchdown passes and just five interceptions. He also ran for 286 yards and four touchdowns. With his size and style, he admires Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s rugged runs.
“The first time I am ‘live’ I’m more than happy to try and go run through a couple guys, have some fun out there and go play football again,” Sorsby said.
