After looking at some potential Notre Dame football offensive breakout candidates, it’s time to move over to the other side of the ball.
The Irish defense won’t look quite the same as last year, with many new starters across the board. That mean’s there will be plenty of untested players getting playing time this fall, but that doesn’t mean they won’t perform at a high level.
Let’s take a look at five potential breakout players for Notre Dame this fall, with a couple of honorable mentions to kick off the group.
Honorable mentions
There are multiple players that just missed the cut, many due to the opportunity to get on the field often. I believe that we will see a good amount of safety Adon Shuler and linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, as they are prepared for larger roles in the coming years. If they both get forced onto the field, it wouldn’t surprise me at all for them to show they belong.
Cornerback Christian Gray
Like others later on this list, Gray got his feet wet as a freshman recording an interception along with 11 tackles. The experience will help him transition into a bigger role, and he’s going to be tested as one of the younger members of this positional group. Gray should be up for the task, and make a splash during his second-year with the Irish.
