Why Mike Norvell is calling Florida State football’s Jacksonville trip is a success

It was hot and humid at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville on Thursday, which is exactly how Florida State football coach Mike Norvell wanted to conclude the two-day trip during 2024 camp.

Just coming off an intense and fiery practice at the Jacksonville Jaguars indoor facility, Norvell was pleased with how his Seminoles continued the intensity of Wednesday’s practice.

“I thought the guys battled at the end of a four-day stretch,” Norvell said.

“Yesterday was actually one of the most explosive practices that we’ve had from last year to even so far this year.

“It was definitely coming off that was the right setup for what we wanted for today, and everything worked accordingly,” We were definitely hot and humid today, and you know, you know, put guys in tough situations.”

Here are three thoughts from Norvell’s after his post-practice.

Mike Norvell loves the consistency of his running game

Norvell envisions the running game as the focal point of his offense.

After Thursday’s practice, the rushing attack has yet to miss a beat. Norvell was impressed by the outside blocking that created open space for the running backs to attack.

For Norvell, it was a collective effort from the non-QBs on offense.

“If you get space, you got to make something happen with it, and that’s where the god-given talents of backs have to show up, and I think these guys are showing that they’re definitely are very capable,” Norvell said.

Mike Norvell believes tight end Brian Courtney has the ‘it-factor’

The tight-end group could be another added strength on offense. While the attention goes mostly to senior Kyle Morlock, Norvell has also been impressed by junior tight end Brian Courtney.

Norvell expects Courtney to be involved in various ways, offensively and on special teams….
