Saturday was a brief taste of home for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team after a week in the woods at the Higher Ground Retreat and Conference Center in West Harrison, Indiana. Three weeks before their home opener, the Bearcats bused back to campus for a three-hour Nippert Stadium scrimmage where they ran well over 100 plays.
“This is the scrimmage where you’re playing everybody,” UC coach Scott Satterfield said. “Really the only guy we held back was (Corey) Kiner. We know what he can do. We’ve got to see those other four backs. Every other position, we let the guys play. I was proud at how hard they went at it.”

Bearcats tight end Joe Royer can be a weapon
Due to depth issues, injury and family matters former Elder tight end Joe Royer was held to four career catches at Ohio State. At the behest of fellow Panther Luke Kandra, Royer signed with the Bearcats in the winter. Saturday, he caught four touchdown passes and played as if he were back in Elder’s Pit.
“It felt good,” a smiling Royer said. “They were dialing some things up for me, giving me a chance to make a play. Thankfully I was able to do so. It was kind of like high school. It felt good running around out there.”
Said Satterfield, “You guys saw him. He’s a talented player. He’s got great size. He’s a big target for our quarterbacks. He’s got soft hands. He can block. He can do it all. When you think about it, he’s got so much ball ahead of him. He’s not played very…
