Offensive lineman Kamryn Waites, defensive lineman Kamran James and true freshman cornerback Cormani McClain were among players in black jerseys who did not go through warmups before the first Florida football fall camp scrimmage on Saturday.
Also not participating was Florida Gators sophomore tight end Gavin Hill, who was spotted on the sidelines in a sling during Saturday’s pre-scrimmage warmups. Hill, a former Buchholz High standout, made a position switch from defensive line to tight end during the offseason.
The 6-foot-2, 173-pound McClain transferred to UF from Colorado during the offseason as a preferred walk-on, but has been in and out of practice throughout fall camp. Last month, Florida secondary coach Will Harris denied a rumor that McClain, a former five-star recruit from Lakeland, was leaving the program.
James had four tackles and assisted on special teams as a true freshman for the Gators last season. The 6-foot-8, 342-pound Waites has started three games over the past two seasons for UF at right tackle and right guard.
A handful of other Florida players went through pregame warmups in black non-contact jerseys, including wide receivers Andy Jean and Ja’Quavion Fraziars.
