Vanderbilt football cornerback Mark Davis is out for the season with an Achilles injury, coach Clark Lea announced Saturday.
Davis was a transfer from Southern Illinois after previously spending three seasons at Buffalo. In 2023 he was an honorable mention selection in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Before a single game is played, the Commodores have taken a massive hit to their cornerback room. Another top transfer, Marlon Jones Jr. from Eastern Washington, will miss the season with an illness.
Vanderbilt instead will have to stick with a rotation at cornerback similar to what it used in 2023, led by sophomore Martel Hight, graduate Tyson Russell and Wyoming transfer Kolbey Taylor.
Additionally, Lea said freshman tight end and receiver Brycen Coleman would miss some time with a broken collarbone, but the injury is not expected to be season-ending.
