The Alabama high school football is nearly here, and The Tuscaloosa News is set to rank to best 10 freshmen and sophomores in the Tuscaloosa area ahead of the 2024 AHSAA season.
Top freshmen and sophomores this season include a quarterback who threw for more than 1,600 yards during his freshman campaign along with a linebacker who led his team with solo tackles as a freshman.
Here’s The Tuscaloosa News’ ranking of the area’s best freshman and sophomore players, in alphabetical order:

Cole Brand
Hubbertville, So.
Why chosen: Brand was a jack of all trades for Hubbertville in 2023, seeing time at running back, wide receiver and safety. He played in 10 games during his freshman season, collecting 157 yards rushing and 408 yards receiving for five touchdowns to go with 73 tackles.
Bennett Green
Northside, So.
Why chosen: Green had a strong freshman season, with 108 carries for 626 yards and five touchdowns. He also accounted for 80 total tackles.
Jacobi Harris
Hillcrest, Fr.
Why chosen: Harris is expected to be a top player in Hillcrest’s backfield this season.
Miles Madden
Paul W. Bryant, So.
Why chosen: As a freshman, Madden contributed on both sides of the ball for the Stampede with 21 receptions for 278 yards and five touchdowns to go with 48 tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss and one interception.
Noah McDaniel
Gordo, So.
Why chosen: The inside linebacker accounted for 77 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions and one sack during his freshman season with the Green Wave.
Logan Morris
American Christian Academy, So.
Why chosen: Morris looks to have a bigger role in the ACA backfield this season and looks to pick up where he left off last season, which was scoring a 40-yard touchdown in the first round of the…
