Who are the top running backs to watch in the Greater Savannah area in 2024?

As the high school football season is set to kickoff in Georgia this week, the anticipation is building for players, teams, coaches and fans looking forward to big games under the lights on Friday nights.

In the latest installment of the top returning players by position in the Greater Savannah area, we take a look at the best running backs coming back in 2024.

Here’s a look at some ball carriers to watch in 2024.

Jayaun Albert, Jenkins

The senior rushed for 496 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Warriors.

Assir Best, Bethesda Academy

The senior transferred from Memorial Day. As a junior, he rushed for 854 yards and nine touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 168 yards and two more scores.

Wade Cobb, Bradwell Institute

The junior is coming off a solid sophomore season, in which he ran for 536 yards and four scores for the Tigers.

Hyers Holland, Savannah Country Day

The senior is also a standout soccer player for the Hornets. He rushed for 802 yards and six scores last year and also had a pair of touchdown catches. He was a second-team All-Region 3-3A selection.

Ca’Den Jones, Calvary Day

Jones was impressive as a freshman as he averaged 7.6 yards per carry for the Cavs. He had 327 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Ryan Scott, Jenkins

The junior is back after rushing for 481 yards and a pair of scores last season for a Warrior squad that reached the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

Zo Smalls, Savannah Christian

Savannah Christian’s Zo Smalls finds some open field against the Cedar Grove defense during the GHSA Class 3A State Championship game on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
