The Jets’ Haason Reddick situation just got a lot messier.
According to multiple reports, Reddick, a no-show at training camp due to his desire for a new contract, has now officially requested to be traded.
Reddick, 29, was acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1, with New York sending Philadelphia a conditional 2026 third-round pick in exchange for the edge rusher.
One of the league’s most prolific pass-rushers over the past four seasons, Reddick has totaled 50.5 sacks over that time period, finishing each of those seasons with at least 11.0 sacks.
Reddick has one year and $14.25 million unguaranteed left on the three-year deal he signed with the Eagles in 2022. Before completing the trade with the Eagles, the Jets offered Reddick a contract extension, sources told SNY’s Connor Hughes. The figures, while a raise, were not what Reddick was looking for (Reddick wants to be paid $25-28 million annually), so he declined the offer.
Per Hughes, the Jets were open to a contract extension making Reddick one of the league’s highest-paid edge rushers, but there was an understanding between the team and player that in order to receive that, Reddick needed to show up and perform on the field in regular season games.
Reddick has now been fined heavily for not participating in training camp, and it seems like the All-Pro pass-rusher has had enough and now wants a change of scenery.
