CHEBOYGAN – Just recently, Luke Munger made his way down to Northwood University.
Munger, a senior football star with the Cheboygan Chiefs, was on the Midland-based campus for a barbecue with the Timberwolves program.
He loved everything about it – and then he got an offer to play there.
That’s all it took.
On Sunday evening, Munger made it official by committing to the Timberwolves following his visit, achieving one of his goals of having a chance to play at the next level.

“It’s a big thing for me – it’s going to be the next four years of football for me,” Munger said. “I know a lot of people aren’t going to be able to do the next four, so I’m lucky that I do and have the have athletic ability to do so.
“At a young age, my dream was to make it to the big league in the NFL, but I mean I’ve got a lot of work ahead. About fifth grade was when I realized I wanted to play college football.”
The commitment to Northwood was a thrilling moment for Munger, who’s starred for the Chiefs as an offensive and defensive lineman in recent years, earning All-Northern Michigan Football League Legends Division honors in 2023.
Developing a positive relationship with the Timberwolves was crucial for Munger, who praised NU offensive line coach Drew Burton, who contacted the Cheboygan standout through Next College Student Athlete (NCSA) recruiting and invited him down to a camp. After a successful camp, Munger was invited to the barbecue before receiving an offer.
As far as what stood out about Northwood, Munger – 6-foot-1, 265-pounds – simply said it felt like home.
