Asa Turner doesn’t look the part, but he might just be the enforcer Florida football needs

It was painfully obvious that Florida’s secondary needed help after last season. What’s not so obvious is how the Gators have tried to remedy the situation.

Meet safety Asa Turner. He brings experience, intensity, a championship pedigree, style, cool vibes and hair to die for.

“I call him Rapunzel,” fellow safety Jordan Castell said.

We can only guess, but Turner might be the only starter in college football to be called that. I did check SEC rosters, and out of 1,360 scholarship players he is the only “Asa.”

I don’t know if Turner’s that gonzo, but he did play with two broken hands last year at Washington.

All this makes Turner an intriguing guy. Though anyone who’s seen UF’s defense lately has a more pressing interest.

Can Rapunzel let his hair down and be like Ronnie Lott?

“Every time I see him lined up across from me, I’ve got to put my mouthpiece in,” wide receiver Kahleil Jackson said. “I know he’s going to bring it.”

Turner brought it the…
