MARION — The Marion-area’s high school football teams opened the season on Friday night, and now it is time to kick off the season with the first player of the week poll.
Here are the nominees for the initial Marion Star Football Player of Week 1 Poll as voting will continue through early Tuesday morning at MarionStar.com and its app.

Marion Star Football Player of Week 1 Poll
● Marion Harding’s Parker Davis made 11 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Mount Vernon.
● Northmor’s A.J. Bower was 10-for-13 passing for 322 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Upper Sandusky.
● Pleasant’s Owen Lowry was 14 of 22 passing for 187 yards and four touchdowns in win over North Union.
● Cardington’s Wyatt Denney ran 13 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns, plus added 10 tackles in a win over Elgin.
● Mount Gilead’s Cam Vickers rushed for 159 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown in a win over Triad.
● Ridgedale’s Michael Deas scored both of his team’s touchdowns on the ground in a win over Hilltop.
