Auburn football has the tools to build a successful season in 2024. However, there is one obstacle the Tigers must overcome to reach that goal says ESPN.
ESPN recently placed FBS teams into tiers ahead of the 2024 season, and Auburn has found a home within Tier 8, titled “In need of a vibe shift.” When providing the reasoning behind the placement, ESPN’s David Hale shared a fact that has haunted Auburn in recent years.
Auburn could make a big leap in Hugh Freeze’s second year, but the Tigers haven’t won more than six games since before anyone knew what COVID was.
Auburn has not enjoyed a six-plus win season since 2019, when it finished 9-4. Auburn has also not won a bowl game since the 2018 season when it trashed Purdue, 63-14 at the Music City Bowl.
Hugh Freeze and staff have worked tirelessly on the recruiting trail to find the best players to fill the foundation for the program’s rebuild. Many experts including Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports predict Auburn to earn seven wins this season. Although a seven-win campaign would take Auburn a step forward, players and fans alike are pushing for something greater.
