Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham looks to tackle Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. during the second half of U-M’s 34-13 win in the College Football Playoff national championship game in Houston on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
The Michigan Wolverines made the College Football Playoff in 2021 and 2022. They lost in the semifinals but were knocking on the door. Michigan managed to keep knocking in 2023. The Wolverines remained relevant. They remained tough. When they trailed Alabama late in the Rose Bowl, they found the ability to rally and recover and ultimately defeat Nick Saban in what turned out to be his last game as a college football coach. Michigan won its first national championship since 1997 and sent a message to the rest of the Big Ten football universe. We at Trojans Wire will spend the 2024 season working with our College Wire colleagues at the websites whose teams are joining USC in moving to the Big Ten: Ducks Wire, UW Huskies Wire, and UCLA Wire. Our Big Ten football roundtable is predicting the records for all 18 Big Ten football teams. We now turn to Michigan, where everyone is waiting to see what Sherrone Moore does in his first season as permanent head coach, replacing Jim Harbaugh. Moore coached in 2023 in an interim capacity when Harbaugh was suspended, but this is now Moore’s ultimate proving ground. Let’s see what Big Ten football predictions our panel has for Michigan football in 2024:
ZAC NEEL, DUCKS WIRE — MICHIGAN GOES 9-3
DON SMALLEY, DUCKS WIRE — MICHIGAN GOES 10-2
ROMAN TOMASHOFF, UW HUSKIES WIRE — MICHIGAN GOES 11-1
