Texas football lands commitment from Jonah Williams, 5-star DB in 2025 class

Texas football scored a big win Saturday evening, as five-star linebacker/safety Jonah Williams announced his commitment to the Longhorns. He chose Texas over LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon.

The 6-foot-3, 203 pound LB is the 10th-ranked player in the Class of 2025, according to the 247Sports Composite and the first top-10 recruit that Texas has landed this cycle. Coming out of Ball High School in Galveston, Williams is the 18th commitment in the class and second five-star recruit, with receiver Kaliq Lockett being the other.

Where Texas’ 2025 class ranks in the country

Williams is considered one of the top athletes in the class, having played on both sides of the ball this past year. In the 2023-24 season, he collected 58 tackles, four interceptions and four tackles for loss on defense. As a receiver, he caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns.

That’s barely scratching the surface of his versatility, however. There’s a chance that Williams suits up for Jim Schlossnagle in the spring, as he’s a legitimate baseball recruit as well.

Steve Sarkisian’s 2025 recruiting class is currently 12th overall without the update of Williams.
