WSU’s receivers tall, fast and ready

Aug. 25—Austin Peay transfer Tre Shackelford had a rather lofty comparison as he complimented his teammates in Washington State’s wide receiver room.

“I compare this unit to, I don’t know if y’all remember, but 2019 Alabama, when they had (Jerry) Jeudy, (Henry) Ruggs, DeVonta Smith — everybody in our room can play, from Dub (Kyle Williams), from BB (Brandon) Hills, from Kris Hutson, from Tony Freeman,” Shackelford said. “It’s just like you got all the options you need. However, Hernandez suffered a foot injury that required surgery earlier in August. WSU coach Jake Dickert said Hernandez will most likely miss the team’s home opener versus Portland State and will be day-to-day or week-to-week after that.

In Hernandez’s absence, Wazzu’s deep, but unproven receiver group has a larger opportunity and pressure to perform.

Williams is WSU’s unquestionable WR1 on the outside, while…
