Aug. 27—EAST GRAND FORKS — East Grand Forks Senior High will recognize its 2004 Minnesota state football championship team for a 20-year reunion at halftime of a Sept. 13 Green Wave game against Perham.
There will be reception at the Blue Moose following the game.
The Green Wave beat Becker 31-14 in the 2004 state title game. That capped a perfect 14-0 season, one spotted with a few narrow wins — 34-30 against Staples-Motley and 20-14 against Crookston early in the regular season, then 28-27 against Glencoe-Silver Lake in the state semifinals.
East Grand Forks quarterback Nick Mertens, who later played at North Dakota State, threw for 2,459 yards that season with 36 touchdowns. He ran for 824 yards.
Chad Larson was a second rushing threat (799 yards) and a deep receiving corps was led by Nate Rambeck (52-851), Casey Solem (38-759) and Larson (33-320).
