Frankfort looks to extend playoff streak to 7

Aug. 28—SHORT GAP, W.Va. — While Frankfort has lost much of its production in the backfield from 2023, it returns a quartet of three-year starters on the offensive line.

That unit will pave the way for the next crop of Frankfort backs, led by Keyser transfer Jullian Pattison at fullback, as the Falcons hope to return to the playoffs for a seventh straight season under Kevin Whiteman.

“We haven’t changed our goals as far as trying to have a winning season and beat Keyser and make the playoffs and advance once we make the playoffs,” said Whiteman, who is entering his 15th season at the helm.

“These kids are working hard. They have their sights set on doing the goals we have set forth, and I think we’re going to have a good year.”

Frankfort finished 7-4 last year and saw its season end in heartbreak at the hands of Weir, 23-21, in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.

The Falcons were in games late in losses to Weir (11-2), 35-21, Spring Mills (9-3), 26-23, and Mountain Ridge (11-2), 24-14, during the regular season.

“We were in every game we lost,” Whiteman said. “We were very disappointed with the playoff loss. Weir was a very good team. … We were right there at the end.”

Whiteman became the winningest coach in Frankfort football history after recording his 109th career win against Grafton, 51-6, on Oct. 27, 2023. He surpassed Phillips, who went 108-41 across 14 seasons as Frankfort’s head coach from 1985 to 1998.

Whiteman’s record stands at 110-48 after 14…
