The thing about being a top-tier college football program is that your resources are close to unlimited. That’s why we see ballooning staffs in the power conferences these days.

Now that analysts are able to coach players on-field, making the right decisions on hiring off-field staffers has become that much more crucially important. And it appears that the Wolverines aren’t done building out the new staff, just days before the 2024 season commences.

247Sports’ Matt Zenitz is reporting that Michigan is hiring former Vanderbilt running backs coach Jayden Everett, who was fired in January of this year. Everett has coached at Indiana State, Central Michigan, Tulsa, and Akron over the course of his career. Everett spent one year in Nashville coaching under Clark Lea.

Michigan already has one face assisting running backs coach Tony Alford in former RB coach Fred Jackson — a holdover from the previous staff.

As mentioned, Everett coached the SEC All-Freshman running back Sedrick Alexander last year, but Alexander led the team with just 371 yards on 96 carries. But while at Tulsa in 2021, he coached a 1,000-yard rusher in Shamari Brooks, and did so in 2017 while at Central Michigan with Jonathan Ward.

A Kansas native, Everett played linebacker at Indiana State from 2005-08.
