The Oklahoma Sooners open the season with the Temple Owls on Friday night in Norman for what will be the start of a historic season.
Oklahoma comes into the season the No. 16 team in the nation in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25. Their march to an SEC title berth and return to the College Football Playoff starts with a Temple Owls team that isn’t bringing much in the way of experience to Norman.
The Owls are still trying to figure out their quarterback situation and lost their leading rusher from last year. Defensively, they’re relying on a number of transfer portal additions to help a unit that ranked 127th in scoring last season.
Oklahoma, on the other hand, has one of the most experienced defenses in the nation, led by [autotag[Danny Stutsman[/autotag], [autotag[Billy Bowman[/autotag], and [autotag]Ethan Downs[/autotag]. It’s a unit hoping to improve on a 2023 season where they allowed 23.5 points per game.
Offensively, the Sooners are breaking in a new offensive line and starting quarterback. But there’s reason for optimism as they retool the offensive side of the ball for 2024. With former five-star quarterback [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] leading the Sooners into 2024, the offense has a chance to be one of the best in the nation.
