Michigan State football has opened a new era with head coach Jonathan Smith, battling the Florida Atlantic Owls on Friday under the lights at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing to open the 2024 season. Follow live updates from the game.
The Spartans hired Smith in November, one day after last year’s regular season ended, and the comparisons between him and legendary MSU coach Mark Dantonio are easy to make.
MSU has a brand new staff and roster: There are 61 new players on the team, including 24 transfers. The top name is 18-year-old quarterback Aidan Chiles, who followed Smith over from Oregon State.
