UNC quarterback Max Johnson was injured in the second half of the Tar Heels’ game at Minnesota and was carted off the field after an apparent right leg injury.
Johnson, a Texas A&M transfer, was the Tar Heels’ starting quarterback for the season opener and completed 12 of 19 passes for 71 yards with an interception before leaving with 3:06 left in the third quarter. He also had a rushing touchdown.
UNC trailed 14-13 when Johnson was injured, leaving redshirt sophomore Conner Harrell to take over.
A 6-foot-5 lefty from Georgia, Johnson has 30 games of experience — including 20 starts at the collegiate level — with 5,853 passing yards, 47 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He’s the son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, a Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and nephew of former coach Mark Richt.
