Freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. made his OU football debut during a season opener against Temple on Friday.
The former four-star prospect replaced starting quarterback Jackson Arnold as the Sooners held a 37-3 lead with 13:47 left in the fourth quarter. Arnold ended the day with 141 passing yards and four touchdowns on 17-for-25 passing.
Hawkins was rated by ESPN as the seventh-best quarterback in the Class of 2024, and he chose OU over programs such as Alabama, Arkansas and Michigan. The 6-foot-1 quarterback is the son of Michael Hawkins, who played cornerback for OU in 2002.
