FAIRLEA — Nate Suttle’s 64-yard touchdown reception with 2:12 to play vaulted Greenbrier East to a 24-20 win over Riverside Friday night.
The Spartans trailed by the unique score of 7-4 in the second quarter after getting their second safety.
The teams traded the lead from the start, and it was Malikhi Hope’s 6-yard touchdown run that put Riverside ahead 20-16 with 3:16 left in the game.
Greenbrier East quarterback Brody Hamric then connected with Suttle for the game-winner a minute later.
It was the third TD pass of the game for Hamric, who threw 52 yards to Brady May and 12 to Donavin Penn. Hamric completed 8 of 20 passes for 153 yards and was intercepted once, returned 53 yards for a touchdown by Jacob Hamric.
May ran 26 times for 129 yards.
Malikhi, who also had a 73-yard touchdown, finished with 180 yards on 15 carries for the Warriors.
East will host Woodrow Wilson next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
