Recruits’ reaction to USC’s upset win over LSU

Remember this one simple point about USC’s win over LSU on Sunday: It was the only game in town. It was the only game on television. It was the only game, period. There were no other games played Sunday night. There were no other college football games played on Sunday. This was a solo stage. USC and LSU had this 3.5-hour game window all to themselves. You better believe top college football recruits were watching. They wanted to see if USC was for real. They wanted to see if USC really was a changed football program. They really wanted to find out if the talk from the coaches and the salesmanship had real substance behind it.

The answer was very clear. USC delivered.

The Trojans had a lot to prove going into this game, as we recently wrote:

“You felt it each time you saw LSU ranked 10 or more spots ahead of USC in the polls, despite being basically the same team as USC in the same essential situation as the Trojans. USC and LSU both had to replace Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks. They both had terrible defensive coordinators last season and both engineered a massive overhaul of their defensive coaching staffs. They both came into this season with a lot to prove and a lot of question marks on the roster. Why LSU was somehow, magically, 10 or 11 spots better than USC in the main preseason polls was something which struck us as odd … and it was a huge sign of disrespect toward USC. Would the Trojan players and coaches use this as motivational fuel for the LSU game?”
