Dan Lanning gives high praise to Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty

In the rough and tumble Big Ten Conference, Oregon is going to face some big offensive lines and great running backs that go through the holes those lines create.

But they might not face a better running back this season than Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. According to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, at 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, Jeanty is ready to play on Sundays right now, and it’s going to be a tough task holding him down.

“I think it’s the best running back I’ve seen since I’ve since I’ve been here. You know, he’s certainly an NFL guy,” Lanning said of the Broncos’ RB1. “He doesn’t go down on first contact ever. He’s one of the best arm guys that we’ve gone against. You know, he runs really, really physical. And then the next guy they brought in (goes) for 100 yards too. So really powerful rushing attack.”

In Boise State’s season opener where they outscored Georgia Southern in the 56-45 victory on the road, Jeanty racked up 267 yards and six touchdowns. Not to be outdone, running back Sire Gaines went for 116 yards when Jeanty was getting a breather on the bench.

Autzen Stadium has hosted a number of great backs not wearing an Oregon uniform such as USC’s Reggie Bush and Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson, but when the years go by, fans might think of Jeanty and think, “That guy from Boise State was a good one too.”
