Colorado football depth chart for game vs Nebraska: A look at Deion Sanders’ starters

Aug 29, 2024; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders (2) prepares to pass the ball in the second half against the North Dakota State Bison at Folsom Field.

Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team survived a test to open the 2024 season, but Week 2 presents an even tougher challenge.

The Buffaloes (1-0) and Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-0) renew their longtime rivalry (dating back to 1898) on Saturday, Sept. 7 (5:30 p.m. MT) at Memorial Stadium.

Here’s a look at Colorado’s official depth chart for the game, with notes on each position group.

Quarterback

Starter: Shedeur Sanders

Backup: Ryan Staub

Notes: Sanders looked like every bit of a future first-round NFL draft pick in Week 1 vs. NDSU, completing 76.5% of his passes for 445 yards and four touchdowns (one interception). The Buffs’ passing game appears to be explosive once again in 2024.

Running back

Starter: Charlie Offerdahl

Backup: Dallan Hayden

Notes: Offerdahl and Hayden combined for 35 rushing yards on 14 carries last week, a trend that won’t lead to much success this fall if it continues. The backfield is Hayden’s (Ohio State transfer) for the taking, but don’t be surprised to see true freshman Micah Welch make his college football debut against Nebraska.

Receiver

Starters:

Travis Hunter

LaJohntay Wester

Will Sheppard

Jimmy Horn Jr.

Backups:

Terrell Timmons Jr.

Omarion Miller

Drelon Miller

Kam Mikell

Notes: Colorado proved why it has arguably the most talented receiver group in the nation in Week 1 when Hunter (seven catches, 132 yards, three touchdowns) and Horn Jr. (seven catches, 198 yards, one touchdown) combined for 330 yards and four touchdowns on 14…
