Jordan Seaton made Colorado football history to open the 2024 season.
The former five-star recruit became the first ever Buff to start at tackle as a true freshman, and he passed his first test with flying colors.
In his college debut against North Dakota State, Seaton allowed just two pressures and zero sacks on 41 pass-block snaps at left tackle, according to Pro Football Focus. It’s hard enough being the blindside protector for a projected first-round NFL draft pick like Shedeur Sanders. It’s even more difficult to do it against veteran college football players as a true freshman.
Seaton matched up with NDSU junior Kole Menz and senior Loshiaka Roques for most of the night and held his own. Menz and Roques had a combined six years of college football experience entering last week’s season opener.
“That’s my little brother,” Colorado starting left guard Justin Mayers said of Seaton on Tuesday. “I think he’s learning fast and he’s very mature for his age. It’s fun playing next to him so it’s really exciting. The combinations we have are so unique and I think that helps us play effectively as a unit.”
Only one game has been played so far, but the early returns on the offseason investment in the Colorado offensive line are promising. After being sacked an FBS-high 52 times in 2023, Sanders was sacked just one time in the season-opening win.
The improved protection allowed Sanders to have one of the best games of his college football career (445 passing yards, four touchdowns).
