HS FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: Wallenpaupack and Honesdale to play in annual Shrine Bowl

Honesdale is off to its best start in nearly two decades, and Wallenpaupack snapped a long losing streak last week.

This year’s game between the longtime rivals is the 32nd Wayne-Pike Shrine Bowl Classic set for Friday at 7 p.m. at the renovated Honesdale Athletic Complex.

Honesdale (2-0) has back-to-back wins over District 11 opponents to start this season. The Hornets defeated East Stroudsburg North and Pocono Mountain East for the team’s best start since 2005.

Mason Avery has 335 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Collins has 150 yards passing and a touchdown and 116 yards rushing and a score. He also had a pair of interceptions last week against Pocono Mountain East.

Wallenpaupack (1-1) defeated East Stroudsburg North, 36-14, to snap a 10-game losing streak, earning first-year head coach Matt Nawrocki the first win of his career.
