Prospects for USC fans to watch in No. 1 Mater Dei vs No. 2 Bishop Gorman

No. 1-ranked Mater Dei (California) will host No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) at the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday at 7 p.m Eastern Time in a game that can be watched live on NFHS Network and Bally Sports. The broadcast will be nationally televised to 11 regional networks across the country via Bally Sports. USC fans and USC recruiting observers will be keenly interested in this game. Let’s see what this game means for USC football recruiting.

When No. 1 Mater Dei hosts No. 2 Bishop Gorman, it will be a showdown of national powerhouses eyeing a high school football national championship. This is equivalent of Georgia taking on Ohio State in Week 2 of the regular season, for all of those who don’t realize how massive a game this is.

Bishop Gorman has won national championships in 2023, 2017* (co-champion), 2016 and 2015.

Mater Dei has won national championships in 2021, 2020, 2017* (co-champion), 1996 and 1994

According to MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings, the game has 39 players rated 3-stars or more by 247Sports (Gorman with 20, Mater Dei 19). Both teams have 5-star wideouts in Chris Henry Jr. (Mater Dei, Ohio State) and Derek Meadows (Gorman, LSU). There will be a bevy of Oregon commits, too, in Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison, edge rusher Nasir Wyatt, and offensive lineman Kodi Greene. Gorman’s future Duck is 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu.
