“I went back and watched Tennessee,” former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said on “The Triple Option” podcast, “And they have a quarterback I called Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn this morning after watching this thing, his name’s Nico Iamaleava.
“I’m telling you this now, I watched the whole thing and it’s Tennessee-Chattanooga, so they were overmatched due to the opponent they played, they were so much better, but this guy as a far as a body type, to stand there athletically and throw the ball, the ball came out like a missile, he was a five-star product coming out of high school. I asked this question, ‘is he a top 10 pick in the NFL draft?’ to Brady and Matt. … This guy is unbelievable.
“I know they had Joe Milton last year, but this guy is a monster. Because of him, I think they’re covering the spread and making the playoff because of this guy.”
The 6-foot-6 quarterback was the No. 3-ranked player and No. 2 quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He’s also ranked the fourth-highest recruit in Vols history, behind Bryce Brown, David Sanders Jr. (2025 commit) and Eric Berry.
