How two sometimes overlooked standouts came up big to lead Savannah Christian to a win

On a Savannah Christian football team blessed with Power Four talent, Kenry Wall and Isaiah Redmond are sometimes overlooked.

But the pair became a dynamic defensive duo on Thursday night to help lead Savannah Christian to a 44-20 non-region win over visiting Oceanside Collegiate (SC) at Pooler Stadium.

With the game knotted at 13 late in the second quarter, Wall broke on a ball thrown by Landshark quarterback Aiden Manavian and made a pick along the right sideline before turning on the after burners as he flew down the field for a 40-yard touchdown that gave SCPS a 20-13 lead at the half.

At the start of the second half, he was in nearly the same spot, but made the interception at midfield before blowing doors toward the end zone on a 50-yard touchdown.

On the next possession, SCPS forced the Land Sharks into what looked like a punt attempt, but with pressure coming in the punter tried to throw it, and Redmond, a junior defensive lineman, made the first interception of his career. He later recovered a fumble and was in on a sack with sophomore star Damion Guyton.

The usual stars had big games for the Raiders as senior running back Zo Smalls, who is committed to Charleston Southern, ran for 204 gritty yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries. Several of the top national recruiting website reporters were on hand to see senior 5-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin, who has narrowed his college choices to Georgia, Miami and USC, and Griffin came up big with a pair of sacks and a forced fumble.

Last year, when Savannah Christian reached the Class 3A state championship game, Wall had 24 total touchdowns with 1,110 yards rushing and 500 receiving. He’s doing it all again this season without much fanfare as the 5-foot-8, 155-pounder has offers including Erskine and Shorter.
